Less Waste, More Recovery

Responsible waste management and recycling built into every stage of the demolition process. Daltons maximises reuse, recycling and material recovery through careful planning, source segregation and on-site processing.

Maximising recovery and reducing waste

Demolition materials should be regarded as resources wherever practical, not simply as waste for disposal. Through early planning, careful segregation and appropriate processing, Daltons aims to maximise reuse and recycling, recover commercial value and minimise the volume of material requiring off-site disposal.

Our approach considers the most appropriate route for materials before demolition begins, allowing opportunities for reuse, recycling and recovery to be incorporated into the demolition methodology and site logistics from the outset.

Planned recovery and segregation at source

Material streams are identified during the planning stages of the project, together with opportunities for on-site reuse, processing, recycling or recovery through appropriately authorised facilities.

Where practical, materials including concrete, brick and masonry, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, timber, plastics and specialist waste streams are segregated at source. Maintaining separation helps preserve material quality, improve recycling opportunities and reduce unnecessary handling and disposal.

Waste management arrangements are coordinated with the demolition programme so that storage areas, processing locations and vehicle movements can be planned efficiently and safely.

On-site processing and reuse

Daltons operates specialist demolition and material-processing equipment, including mobile crushing equipment, excavators and recycling attachments.

Where the material is suitable and the necessary environmental and project requirements are satisfied, demolition arisings such as concrete and masonry can be processed on site for reuse within the works or onward recovery.

On-site processing can reduce double handling, vehicle movements and the requirement to import replacement materials, while retaining suitable resources within the project wherever technically and environmentally appropriate.

Metals and higher-value materials

Daltons has extensive experience in identifying, segregating and recovering ferrous, non-ferrous and higher-value metals generated through demolition and industrial dismantling.

Consideration is also given to whether plant, equipment and other assets have a greater value through reuse or resale before they are treated as scrap.

The wider group includes Brookfield Metal Recycling Ltd and Dalton Demolition Recycling Limited, allowing relevant group experience and recycling capability to support project-specific material recovery strategies where appropriate.

Compliance, traceability and responsible waste management

Daltons Demolitions is registered with SEPA for the transport of waste and can manage the transportation of demolition arisings directly where this forms part of the agreed scope.

Waste is transferred only to appropriately authorised facilities, with the relevant documentation maintained to provide traceability from the point of production through to its destination.

Waste Transfer Notes, Special Waste Consignment Notes and supporting records are completed and retained as applicable, providing clients with a clear audit trail of material movements and disposal or recovery routes.

Daltons is preparing its waste documentation and reporting processes for the UK digital waste tracking service. Under the current timetable, permitted waste receiving sites in Scotland are expected to begin mandatory reporting in January 2027, with waste collectors, including carriers, brokers and dealers, scheduled to follow from October 2027.

From demolition material to recovered resource

Our objective is to establish the most appropriate destination for each material stream rather than defaulting to disposal.

By combining selective demolition, segregation, asset recovery, on-site processing and established recycling routes, we aim to maximise the proportion of demolition materials that can be reused or recovered while providing clients with a transparent and well-documented approach to waste management.
