Waste Transfer Station

Client – The NWH Group
Location – 31 Nuneaton street, Glasgow
Duration – 1 Week

Demolition of Fire Damaged Waste Transfer Station

  • Demolition of former fire damaged 1800m steel portal frame shed to slab level
  • Flush cut columns with oxypropane cutting
  • Processing of steel to 5 feet for onward recycling

Daltons Demolitions were appointed by NWH to undertake the safe demolition and site clearance of the fire-damaged waste transfer station located on Nuneaton Street, Glasgow.

The facility comprised an 18-metre high, 1,800m² steel portal frame structure that had sustained extensive fire damage, rendering it beyond economical repair—including its integral picking station.

Comprehensive pre-demolition planning and proactive stakeholder engagement were essential to the project’s success. Daltons worked in close coordination with on-site health and safety teams and the client’s representatives to ensure minimal disruption to the busy waste transfer operations, which remained fully operational throughout the demolition process.

The structure was methodically dismantled on a bay-by-bay, top-down basis to always maintain structural stability. Demolished steel components were processed using hydraulic shears to reduce material to 5-foot by 2-foot sections, maximising scrap value for the client.

The project was delivered safely, ahead of schedule, and within budget—with zero incidents reported.
